Discover and settlement:
Supposedly Flores was discovered and settled between the years of 1450 and 1452 by the navigator Diogo de Teive. However and due to its isolation, the settlement stopped and only restarted in 1504 with settlers coming from Terceira and Madeira Islands. Initially, it was called Ilha de S. Tomás, but later in 1475, and due to the abundance of flowers (flores), its name was changed to Flores.
