Gastronomy:
Here are some of the island’s gastronomic specialties: “alcatra” (fish or meat stew), “Coelho de molho de vilăo” (rabbit), and “Sopa do Espírito Santo” (a traditional soup). The seafood is also very diversified and fresh. In the sweet menu, “alfenim” and “donas amélias” (sugar biscuits), “coscorőes (fritter) and “massa sovada” (sweet bread) are good examples of Terceira sweetmeats.
The cheeses are also of good quality, specially the handmade cheese.
The famous Biscoitos’ wine, “verdelho” (an aperitif wine), “angelica” and brandy, as well as the quality table wines please the most exigent preferences.
Constituted by prominent individuals of the Region, “A Confraria do vinho verdelho dos Biscoitos” is a brotherhood with seat in the Wine Museum, which has given a great contribute to the quality preservation and divulging of the good wine produce in the Azores.
